On Thursday 18 September, the chain is cutting prices across most of its pubs in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Scotland is included too, although the discount won’t stretch to alcohol there.

How it works

You won’t need a code, voucher or any faff to get the discount.

Just order as usual at the bar or through the Wetherspoon app and the 7.5% will be taken off when you pay.

Menus will still show full prices, but your total will be reduced at checkout. So, a £10 round will come down to £9.25 without you having to lift a finger.

The discount applies to most items, including meal deals such as the Thursday “Curry Club”. The only places excluded are airport pubs and those inside Haven holiday parks.

Why Wetherspoon is doing it

This isn’t a random giveaway. Wetherspoon calls the event Tax Equality Day. It’s run each year to highlight the difference in tax rates between supermarkets and pubs – supermarkets don’t pay VAT on food, but pubs do.

Whether you agree with their stance or not, the result is a rare chance to eat and drink for less.

Is it worth it?

‘Spoons isn’t exactly known for regular discounts, so if you were planning a visit anyway, it’s a decent saving. It won’t make you rich, but if you’ve got the kids with you for lunch, or you’re grabbing a curry and pint with mates, the saving quickly adds up.

As I often say, every pound saved is a pound that can go towards bills, debts or even just keeping a bit of breathing space in your bank account.

Or, if you’re planning to play the “Wetherspoons Game,” it will mean a cheaper bill for ordering peas from home! (If you know, you know)

And if you’re eating out regardless, why pay more than you have to?

Skint Dad says

You won’t often see Wetherspoon slash prices across the board, so if you like a bargain pub meal, this is the day to do it.
